March 20, 2016 Immediate Release Grand Falls-Windsor, NL - The Grand Falls- Windsor Cataracts got goals from seven different players and were 7-3 winners over the St. John's Toyota Plaza Capitals in game two of the 2016 Herder Memorial Championship brought to you by the Telegram on Sunday afternoon in Grand Falls-Windsor. Mark Roebothan of the Caps open the scoring in the first period on the power play at 11:19. Danny Wicks replied 3:20 seconds later walking out of the corner with a short side goal to even the score. The Avalon East Champs took their second lead of the game on a goal by Bobby Squires finishing off nice passing play. The Cats responded on the next shift to knot the game at two on a goal by Kyle McGuirk. Mike Brent on the Power Play and Andre Gill scored second period goals to give the Central West Champs a 4-2 lead after two and they never look back. Luke Gallant, Rodi Short and Andrew Brennan provided insurance goals in the third while Squires replied for the Caps for his second of the contest. A.J Whiffen got his second win of the series in net, while Kyle Downer stopped 46 pucks for the Caps. The best of five series will continue next weekend at the Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay for game three on Friday, March 25th at 7:30 pm. Game four, if necessary, will be played at the Jack Byrne Arena on Saturday, March 26th at 7:30 pm, with game five, if it goes the limit, on Sunday, March 27th at 2:00 pm in Torbay. The Herder Memorial Trophy was first presented by the Evening Telegram Limited in honor of the hockey playing Herder Family, who founded the Evening Telegram in 1879. The trophy is emblematic of the All Newfoundland Senior Hockey Championship. The St. John's Capitals have won seven Herder titles and last competed for the coveted trophy in 1990. The Cataracts are vying for their fourteenth Herder championship.
