CARIBOUS WIN GAME THREE OVER THE CEE BEES IN THE SERIES FOR THE HERDER

Grand Falls-Windsor, NL –The Clarenville Ford Caribous got two early first period goals and held on to beat the Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprise Cee Bee Stars 4-1 in game three of the 2017 Herder Memorial Championship brought to you by the Telegram on Friday night in Clarenville. Ryan Delaney and Kevin Reid, in his first game of the series after having missed last weekend with an injury, scored for the Caribous in the first period. After a scoreless second period, the Caribous extended their lead by four, with goals from captain Dustin Russell and Mason Reid, his third of the series. Ray Dalton responded just over mid-way in the final frame for the Cee Bees to break goaltender Jason Churchill’s shutout. Churchill stopped 33 of 34 shots for the Caribous for the win, while A.J. Whiffin made 26 saves in the loss.
Jordan Escott of the Kelly Ford Gander Flyers was announced as the Howie Clouter Memorial Award winner as the most gentlemanly and sportsmanlike player in the province. Caribous rookie Connor Donaghey, received the Albert Pee Wee Crane Memorial Award as being the best first-year player in all Senior A leagues.
The best of five series will continue tomorrow night with game four at 7:30 pm at the EEC in Clarenville. If the Cee Bees win, the deciding game will be played in Clarenville on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
The Herder Memorial Trophy was first presented by Ralph Herder of the Evening Telegram Limited in honor of the hockey playing Herder Family, who founded the Evening Telegram in 1879. The trophy is emblematic of the All Newfoundland Senior Hockey Championship.
