CATARACTS SCORE LATE TO NIP THE BREAKERS IN GAME ONE OF THE HERDER

April 6, 2019 Immediate Release Torbay, NL –The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts got a power play goal from Kyle McQuirk with just over five minutes remaining in the third period to claim game one of the 2019 Herder Memorial Championship on Saturday night over the Southern Shore Breakers. The Breakers started fast with two first period goals from Peter Kavanagh and Dan Cadigan before the Cataracts got their first marker at 11:34 of the first period from Andre Gill. Cadigan scored his second goal of the game early in the second and the Breakers regained their two-goal lead But the Cataracts goT goals from Danny Wicks and playing-coach Pat Yetman in the second to tie the game. The game remained deadlock at three before McQuirk got his game winning marker. AJ Whiffen earned the win in goal for the Cataracts stopping 39 of 42 shots while Mark Yetman suffered the loss for the Breakers. The best of seven series resume tomorrow with a matinee game at 2:00 pm at the Jack Byrne Arena. The Herder Memorial Trophy was first presented by Ralph Herder of the Evening Telegram Limited in honor of the hockey playing Herder Family, wo founded the Evening Telegram in 1879. The trophy is emblematic of the All Newfoundland Senior Hockey Championship.
